Rotary Delegation Inaugurates Newly Installed Solar Systems
Our Rotary friends and partners from the Wasserburg Rotary Club in
Germany visited our school from October 29 till November 1, 2011. The
group included PDG Heinrich Kohler, Inter Country Committee Chair, P.
Andreas Cramer, President of RC Hamburg-Lombardsbrucke, P. Peter
Schwertberger, President of RC Wasserburg, Dr. Maria Fick, the wife of
District Governor (D 1840, and PP Peter Rink, our dear friend from RC
Wasserburg. Accompanying the group were Mr. Tony Asfour and Mrs. Mary
Asfour from RC of Beirut Cosmopolitan.
The purpose of the visit was the inauguration of the newly installed
solar water heating systems which were installed in Boys Boarding Home 4
and the main kitchen and laundry building of JLSS. The systems were
installed with a grant donated by the Rotary Foundation, the Rotary Club
of Wasserburg, Germany, the Rotary Club of Santa Monica, California, the
Rotary Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan, and the Rotary Club of Beirut
Phoenix. The inauguration took place on Sunday October 30, 2011. The
following day members of the group visited our various departments and
discussed with the director, the immediate needs of the school and how
they can support future projects that will enhance teaching programs and
assist JLSS with necessary equipment for developing vocational training.
The Rotary Foundation through the wonderful sup
port
of the Rotary Club of Wasserburg, the Rotary Club of Beirut
Cosmopolitan, and many other Rotary clubs have been supporting our
school for over ten years. The two school buses, the furniture of the
girls boarding homes, the CNC machine that brought vocational training
in our school to the 21st century, the kitchen equipment, and finally
the solar water heating systems are among many projects that the Rotary
Foundation kindly implemented in our school. These projects enabled JLSS
to provide better care, education, and vocational training to our
underprivileged children. They also enabled us to reduce our deficit
especially with the kitchen equipment and the newly installed solar
systems that will reduce our electricity and diesel bills enormously. We
also receive very valuable technical support from our Rotary friends.
We express our most sincere gratitude to all our Rotary partners and
friends for their wonderful support, and we look forward to furthering
our cooperation towards the development of care, education, and
vocational training for our students.
